REFUGEE AND SUPPORTIVE HOUSING CASA EXCAVADA

Casa Excavada is a thoughtfully designed structure for refugees and individuals in need, commissioned by a charitable foundation and situated on a lot nestled between party walls, adapting seamlessly to a complex topography. The project originates from the concept of solids and voids; starting with a nearly rectangular lot, the design carves out sinuous forms, creating multiple funnel-shaped interior courtyards that echo the traditional architecture of Seville. These courtyards allow natural light to penetrate the various living spaces and communal areas, while also facilitating free air circulation, resulting in a favorable climatic solution.
The interior spaces are carefully planned from the ground up to be permeable and multifunctional. The lower levels house a laundry room, storage areas, dining and relaxation spaces, training rooms, a medical clinic, restrooms, an IT room, and service offices. The residential units vary in size and layout, providing flexible living arrangements tailored to different needs. Casa Excavada not only offers shelter but also fosters a supportive environment that promotes well-being and community among its residents.
